Jyväskylä Art Street autumn season opening 5-7 September 2025

Jyväskylä's Art Street runs from Kirkkopuisto to the Aalto2 Museum Centre for about 1.2 km, a few blocks wide. You will find almost a hundred different art and cultural attractions on Art Street. At www.jyvaskylantaidekatu.fi i.e. on the homepage of this site you will find a map service that allows you to explore destinations by theme, which are architecture, art & design, with a dog, with the whole family, Finnish Athens, eat & drink and events.

The autumn opening of Jyväskylä Art Street is being celebrated for the third time! The program once again has a diverse offering for all ages, from babies to grandparents. Get to know artists and art spaces, learn new things about our cultural environment on guided tours, experience film, dance, word art and do it yourself. The autumn opening of Art Street is being implemented by a large number of free art field actors and individual artists, as well as the City of Jyväskylä and the University of Jyväskylä.

The program will be updated until the end of August. Admission to the events is free unless otherwise noted.

Time travel to the past - self-paced workshop

Take a journey back in time 150 years to the Jyväskylä Seminary's model school, or training school! The whole family workshop will guide you to various task stations located around the Soihtu Exhibition Centre exhibition. At the task stations, you can, for example, build with Fröbel's blocks, practice the alphabet on a flipchart and find out the contents of Uno Cygnaeus' suitcase. The workshop is self-paced and you can participate at your own pace. Children must be accompanied by an adult!

The exhibition's theme is leather creation – the moment when the old, rigid essence breaks and something new, vibrant and potentially surprising emerges.

The State Hall offers a cultural program with an ILO theme that will sensitize your senses, hobby demonstrations, information about learning new things, and participatory moments. The fourth venue is the Old Parsonage, where the theme is FRIENDSHIP. In the parsonage you can take a breather over a cup of coffee and a glass of skumppa. Hallway event

Do you want to find new cultural experiences, hobbies or services for yourself, your family or your community? Welcome to the Lämpiö event, which brings together art and creative professionals from the Jyväskylä region under one roof! At the fair in the Blomstedt Hall, you can get to know dozens of artists, performers, creative entrepreneurs and cultural actors. University orchestras and choirs showcase event "The Sound of JYU"

The Sound of JYU will present the music hobby groups operating within the university on Friday, September 5th at the university's main building. The event will start at 5 pm with a concert featuring wind and choral music performed by various hobby groups. The doors will be open at the concert, so you can arrive and leave the concert as you wish. After the concert, the different groups will stay in the lobby of the main building to present their activities in more detail from around 6:30 pm to 8 pm. The event will include the wind orchestra Puhkupillit, the symphony orchestra Sinfis, the Alvar Men's Choir, the Musica Choir and Ruamjai.

The Writers' House, designed by Wivi Lönn, opens its doors in honor of the autumn opening of Jyväskylä's Art Street. At the event organized by the Central Finland Writers' Association, you can sit down for a moment to listen to Ilpo Jauhiainen's audio work Pieniä tosiasioiata, in which the texts of nine poets from Jyväskylä intersect, layer, and break down – and form new, unintentional, momentary compositions. Rana Cultural Walks are artist-led guided walks departing from Villa Rana Cultural Centre. Three different walks lead you through the life, times and work of Wivi Lönn, Uno Cygnaeus and Yrjö Blomstedt, who influenced Jyväskylä's Seminaarinmäki. ROBOTIC BALLET

The short film directed by Bob Rogers presents a fusion of technology and classical music, in which assembly line robots in a car factory perform their precise tasks gracefully and precisely to the beat of familiar ballet melodies – as if dancing! The film bulges out of the screen and the factory robots come to life as the audiovisual whole is combined with live performing art. The ballet interpretation, synchronized to the film and experienced live, is performed by dance artist Saga Elgland.
